Detailed Information
MISSION
To provide resources and education about camping at a one day
event, while promoting that families try camping in Heritage
Park or their own backyard one night / year
DESCRIPTION
Learn everything about camping and even camp, at the Great
“Farmington Hills” Campout event in Heritage Park, Saturday,
June 14 – Sunday, June 15, 2008 (Father’s Day Weekend – Great
present for Dads). We are encouraging that families who have
never camped or have camped, spend the night outdoors in
Heritage Park or your own backyard! For more information, what
you need to camp, and various camping resources, visit
www.F2H.org. Together, the City of Farmington Hills, Farmington
Public Schools, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Girl Scouts of Metro
Detroit, Area Boy Scout Troops, Oakland County Parks, Metro
Parks, Farmington/Farmington Hills Optimist Club, Riverside
Kayak Connection, LLC, Sunflour Bakehaus, and others have
partnered up to make the 2nd Annual Great “Farmington Hills”
Campout, an experience you will always remember. We want to help
you try camping.
The Indoor Family has never camped and little Johnny Indoor
gets a flyer at school. All of Johnny Indoor's friends are
saying they are going to campout in their backyard. Then, Johnny
presents the idea to the Indoor parents. They say, "Camping!?!,
What?, Huh? Everyone’s camping? Outside?,...". Johnny forces the
idea and nags the Indoor parents so much that the family buys a
tent to put up in their backyard the day of the Great
“Farmington Hills” Campout, then they go to Heritage Park that
evening and experience some of the activities people do when
camping (in a campground), then they go home, a little more
prepared, to campout all night in their backyard. Three weeks
later, the Indoor Family goes on their first camping trip to an
actual campground. The next summer, the Indoor Family
compromises with the outdoors, they buy a RV, and begin camping
in the great outdoors!
