Updates

 June 2008 Update

In June of 2005, the City of Farmington Hills Department of Special Services met with over 100 residents of the Farmington Hills/Farmington area to determine the need for the construction of a premier skate park in Farmington Hills at Founders Sports Park (35500 Eight Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48335).

The City of Farmington Hills Department of Special Services and the committee of residents, developed a MISSION: to establish a premier concrete skate park where skaters can exercise in a clean, safe environment without endangering people or damaging property. To develop a well-maintained park open to skaters who are willing to uphold the park’s rules and regulations. To view this park as a community project, designed to satisfy the needs of skaters and families.

By December 2005, over 200 people attended a skate park meeting and were listed as a Farmington Hills Skate Park Committee Member.

From November 2005 - March 2006, over 150 committee members gave input on the design of the park. The final design was delivered by Site Design Inc., in March 2006.

In July 2006, George Riley and the Riley Foundation donated $500,000 to the Skate Park project and the City of Farmington Hills named the skate park, Riley Skate Park.

Riley Skate Park will be a 29,000 square foot all-concrete park that will be host of local and national competitions and will become the area’s premier hotspot for skateboarders and in-line skaters. The unique design provides elements for skateboarders/in-line skaters of all skill levels, and spectators the opportunity to view the activity in a comfortable park like setting, for FREE.

Riley Skate Park is being designed and built from money generated through corporate donations, small business support, fundraising events, and individual support.

From June 2005 – December 2006 over 20 different fund-raisers have been implemented to raise money to build Riley Skate Park.

Currently, $600,000 has been raised to build Riley Skate Park. As of December 14, 2006, 48 engraved bricks have been purchased by skate park supporters. With the park being FREE, more engraved brick purchases are expected in the early part of 2007.

January – March 2007 the City of Farmington Hills and Riley Skate Park Committee members will be working hard to reach the goal of $875,000 to build Riley Skate Park.

Construction of Riley Skate Park is projected to begin in Spring 2008 and Riley Skate Park should be complete by Summer 2008.

It has already been decided that Riley Skate Park will be FREE and unsupervised, however patrolled by Park Rangers and Community Police.

We are asking all Riley Skate Park supporters to donate or help raise funds now! Please help make a lot of kids dreams become reality. Riley Skate Park will be one of the country’s best skate parks. And to think you helped make it happen is a reward in itself!

The City of Farmington Hills and the Riley Skate Park Committee will be creating Farmington Hills’ Premier Recreation Facility in Founders Sports Park & Ice Arena Complex: having a skate park, ice arena, music venue (Club 2nd Floor), disc golf course, sand v-ball, b-ball courts, baseball, soccer, bocce ball, cricket, video games, camps, an after-school youth center, special events, tournaments and many other activities.

Donations for Riley Skate Park can be sent to Friends of the Parks, Farmington Hills, MI 501c3 Organization, 28600 Eleven Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48336.
