Consumers Energy to Perform Gas Main Repairs Excavation will require delays in 13 Mile Road construction

In late July, Consumers Energy inspected their 16-inch gas main that runs throughout Oakland County, including a section of 13 Mile Road between Haggerty and Inkster Roads in Farmington Hills.
During that inspection process, Consumers Energy discovered areas needing repairs that must be addressed before the gas demands of the winter heating season.  The City of Farmington Hills and Consumers Energy are working together to ensure that the impact on local residents will be limited.
Some of the gas main repairs will require excavation to facilitate pipe replacements.  This work will cause lane closures and possible traffic delays in the immediate area.  One of the biggest impacts will be on 13 Mile Road between Halsted and Drake Roads.  The repairs required by Consumers Energy will postpone the City’s ability to install the final layer of asphalt in this area of roadway and will set back the projected opening of 13 Mile Road.

Due to the unanticipated and urgent nature of the repair work, advanced planning was not possible.  The resulting inconvenience and delays are unfortunately a necessary part of providing safe and reliable gas service to residents of Farmington Hills and surrounding communities.
Consumers Energy is a public utility that provides natural gas and electricity to 6.6 million of Michigan's 10 million residents.  It serves customers in all 68 of the state’s Lower Peninsula counties.  It is the primary subsidiary of CMS Energy.
