Farmington Hills Youth Theatre Presents Young Playwrights and Beauty & the Beast Auditions

It’s an exciting start to the New Year for the Farmington Hills Youth Theatre!  A new program, Young Playwrights, has an application deadline of January 12 and auditions for the spring production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will be held Saturday, January 13 and Sunday, January 14 at the Costick Center.

YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS is for students in grades 7 to 12 who are interested in writing and working with peers to create a unique full-length script that will be turned into a full stage production by the Youth Theatre later in 2018.  Youth may be from Farmington Hills or surrounding communities.  This opportunity might not be available again - young playwrights are encouraged to apply! 
Participants will work under the guidance of Farmington Hills resident Stephen Mack Jones, award-winning playwright, recipient of the Kresge Arts in Detroit Literary Fellowship, 2017 Farmington Area Artist in Residence, and author of the recently published book August Snow.  The program’s assistant teacher, actor Ethan Kankula, has been a theatre instructor with the Cultural Arts Division for the last two summers. 
Submit an application by January 12 at Acceptance notifications will be made by January 19.  The program will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from February 6 through May 10.  Accepted participants will need to pay a registration fee of $160/non-residents or $150/residents. 
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST AUDITIONS will take place at the Costick Center on Saturday, January 13 and Sunday, January 14 from noon to 5 p.m.  Newcomers and experienced actors (both residents and non-residents of Farmington Hills) in grades 1 to 12 or adults are encouraged to audition.  Participants may drop in any time during auditions and are asked to bring a recent photo; all other materials are supplied.  Additional information is available at
A free audition workshop will be held on Wednesday, January 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Costick Center where anyone interested in auditioning can learn the songs and dances prior to the formal audition process.  No pre-registration required.  For more information, go to
