The Central Services Department provides professional services in the areas of Purchasing, Information Technology, GIS, Telecommunications and Mail Services.

The Purchasing Division is a centralized agency responsible for assisting City Departments & Divisions in their procurement activities. Annually this accounts for over $8 Million in purchases. We strive to receive the best value for the goods and services purchased for Farmington Hills needs. The City of Farmington Hills is a founding member of the Michigan Intergovernmental Trade Network (MITN), a centralized web-based e-procurement system that provides a single point of contact for vendors to access new business opportunities throughout our region. Surplus sales of City owned property is also listed on MITN. Key benefits to the MITN system include:

  • Michigan Inter-governmental Trade Network24-hour access to business opportunities
  • Instant electronic notification and document delivery
  • Notification based upon the vendorís designated product or service
  • Vendor-managed system registration
  • Bid tabulations
  • Reduced processing costs for the City
  • Increased competition and exposure to bids and quotes

Award PlaqueThe City of Farmington Hills Purchasing Division was selected as the 2012 Michigan Public Purchasing Officers Association agency of the year. This esteemed award is presented annually to the agency that has made significant contributions to the Purchasing profession in the State of Michigan. The Farmington Hills staff was credited with its cooperative purchasing efforts, involvement in creating a LEED Certified Gold City Hall, creation of the MITN e-procurement system and its overall tax savings to the City.

The mission of the Information Technology Division to provide value, leadership and support that facilitate the identification, implementation and use of technology to support the Citizens while enhancing the mission and the requirements of City staff.

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system designed for capturing, storing, integrating, analyzing and displaying data from a geographic perspective. GIS stores information in themes or layers that contain data about a particular kind of geographical feature. Each layer is linked to a specific position on the globe. Because data in a GIS are referenced to geography, they have real-world locations and could overlay one another. GIS links the location to each layer (such as people to addresses, buildings to parcels, or streets within a network) to give a better understanding of how the features inter-relate.

Telecommunication Services provides voice/data trunks/wireless and services, campus telephone system design and operations support, cabling consultation and (moves adds and changes) in addition to other services.

Mail Services processes incoming and outgoing United States Postal Service mail and shipping for all Departments and Divisions. Our goal is to provide service that is courteous, economical and efficient.
