2014 Festival of the Arts

2014 Festival of the ArtsThe annual Festival of the Arts is a community-wide celebration of the arts - a collaborative effort presented by the City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department, the Farmington Community Arts Council, and the Farmington Public Schools. The festival features numerous special events and activities throughout the week, as well as over 200 framed and unframed paintings for exhibit and sale by the Farmington Art Foundation, informational displays by community cultural organizations, and student artwork from private and public schools and Oakland Community College. The Festival of the Arts has been recognized by the National League of Cities as a showcase event at its national convention in New Orleans, and received the “Innovative Program Award” from the Michigan Recreation and Parks Association.

During the week, hundreds of children visit the festival, listen to school groups perform, experience hands-on art activities and see demonstrating artists. Award ceremonies and city activities are also held during the week. Other special events include:

The Fabulously Popular Wine/Jazz/Fun Event
Friday, May 2, 7:00-9:30 PM, Costick Center

Art After Dark on Friday night has become one of the highlights of the Festival of the Arts. With 40 wines to taste from BELLA VINO Fine Wine and Spirits, delectable foods and great live jazz, visitors can stroll the artwork and enjoy the exhibits.

The Family Festival Day is an exciting day filled with art experiences for all ages. This year’s theme is “Grow with the Arts”.

Along with over 200 framed and unframed pieces of art to browse, you will see artists demonstrating a wide variety of media, from sculpture, pottery, and painting to weaving and quilting, and enjoy the community displays and student artwork. Children can get into the action, with hands-on art experiences. Ongoing live performances throughout the day will include an enjoyable mix that includes dance, music and more. It's a wonderful, free event that showcases the arts in our community!

Many area businesses and organizations provide support for the Festival, with sponsorships, donations and volunteers. To learn more about these opportunities, or for general information on the festival, please call the Cultural Arts Division, at (248) 473-1856.
