In 2003, the Cultural Arts Division formed the Farmington Hills
Youth Theatre in cooperation with Sky’s the Limit Productions.
Since then, the Farmington Hills Youth Theatre has drawn thousands
of children into the magical world of the theater, in classes,
workshops and summer camps. Locations vary; summer camps are held
at the Farmington Players Barn Theater.
The Youth Theatre’s musical productions are enjoyed by over
5,000 adults and school children each year, via public
performances on the Costick Center stage as well as an extensive
school outreach program. Youth Theatre instructors are all
experienced performers, vocalists, dancers and teachers.
Since its inception, the program has been consistently praised
by enthusiastic parents, who testify that the experience has
fostered invaluable qualities of self-esteem, teamwork and skills
in their children. One parent has called the program, “The Dale
Carnegie course for kids”. The Youth Theatre is open to young
actors of all skill levels, from the novice to the more
experienced. A new program was created in 2007 to involve younger
children, from kindergarten to second grade. One show a year is
also open to adults, providing a chance for families to perform
together.
Productions have included "Alice in Wonderland," "Annie, Jr.,"
"Guys and Dolls," "Honk, Jr.," "Retrovision," "The Wonderful World
of Oz”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”,
“Seussical”, and “Music Man”.
Script to Stage Youth Theatre Program
A new program for the younger actor, Script to Stage offers
children the chance to learn about auditioning, producing a show,
learning lines, singing and dancing. At the end of the program,
students rehearse and perform for the public in a musical. Classes
are open to children in kindergarten to 2nd grade.
