Christmas Tree
and Holiday Greeting Card Recycling
Christmas Trees
 Christmas
trees can be recycled instead of being placed at the curbside and sent
to the landfill. Every year, Glen Oaks County Golf Course has a
drop-off in the clubhouse parking lot at 30500 West Thirteen Mile Road,
just east of Orchard Lake Road. Trees are accepted from 9:00 AM
until 4:00 PM, seven days a week, December 26 through the second
Saturday in January. There is no charge to participate.
Recycled Christmas trees will be turned into compost, so please remove
all decorations, lights, tinsel, and/or ornaments before taking them to
the drop-off site and do not place them in plastic bags. For more
information, call Oakland County Parks at (248) 858-0906 or
visit Oakland
County's website.
Holiday Greeting Cards
 Due
to changes in the City’s Curbside Recycling Guidelines, residents can
now toss their holiday greeting cards loosely in their green recycling
bin or place them with newspapers in a brown paper bag. Holiday cards
are accepted as part of the mixed office paper category which includes
junk mail, office paper, loose leaf paper, manila folders, and even
paperback books.
All types of greeting cards can go in the bin,
including old birthday and anniversary cards. Please do not include
cards with glitter or metallic paper; these can’t be recycled and should
be discarded with the regular trash.
In previous years, the City has accepted cards for
donation to the Keith Bovenschen School in Warren, which serves
developmentally disabled children and young adults. This year, however,
the school is no longer accepting donated cards.
