Curbside Guidelines

The City of Farmington Hills, in cooperation with the Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County (RRRASOC), has announced new curbside recycling guidelines that will allow residents to recycle more. New recycling guidelines will go into effect on October 1, 2008.

New items accepted in the recycling bins include:

  • Pizza boxes
  • All colors of glass bottles and jars
  • Ceramics
  • All numbers of narrow-neck plastic bottles
  • Bulky #2 HDPE plastic (such as toys, buckets, crates)
  • Small household scrap metal
  • Plastic bags from grocery and retail stores (bagged together please)
  • Drink boxes

These new items will be accepted in addition to the previously accepted items for recycling including newspapers, magazines, telephone books, bundled cardboard and boxboard, junk mail, office paper, #1 and #2 plastic bottles, metal cans and foil, and clear, brown and green glass bottles and jars. The Southfield and Novi Drop-offs will also accept additional items for recycling, including used consumer electronics such as personal computers.

Starting October 1, RRRASOC’s Material Recovery Facility will have a new plant operator -- FCR, part of Casella Waste Systems. FCR also currently operates MRFs in Saginaw and Ann Arbor.

For more information about the new curbside recycling guidelines, please contact RRRASOC at 248-208-2270 or www.rrrasoc.org.
