Festival of the Arts, April 23 - 27, 2008
Costick Center
The annual Festival of the Arts is a community-wide
celebration of the arts—a collaborative effort presented by the City of
Farmington Hills Special Services Department, the Farmington Community
Arts Council, and the Farmington Public Schools. The festival features
numerous special events and activities throughout the week, as well as
over 200 framed and unframed paintings for sale by the Farmington Artist
Club, informational displays by community cultural organizations,
student artwork from private and public schools and Oakland Community
College.
During the week, hundreds of children visit the
festival, listen to school groups perform, experience hands-on art
activities and see demonstrating artists. Awards ceremonies and city
activities are also held during the week. All events are free, unless
otherwise specified. Other special events include:
ART AFTER DARK – the fabulously popular
wine/jazz/fun event
Friday night, hosted by Whole Foods Market of West
Bloomfield, Art After Dark has become one of the highlights of the
Festival of the Arts. With 30 wines to taste, delectable foods and live
jazz, visitors can stroll the artwork and enjoy the exhibits.
STARRY NIGHT GALA – In 2007, the gala was a true
hit with its theme of “Arts 007/Casino Royale.” The gala, held on
Saturday night and sponsored by Judge Asset Management, is a lovely
evening with a gourmet dinner, unique silent auction, great music, and
casino-style gambling for prizes. Elegant but relaxed, the gala helps
support the festival and the arts in the community, while providing an
affordable night of fun for all.
FREE FAMILY FESTIVAL – The family festival on
Sunday, from noon to 5:00 PM, is an exciting day that offers art
experiences for all ages, with ongoing live performances, hands-on art
activities for children, area artists demonstrating a wide variety of
art from sculpture to weaving, and art for sale.
Many area businesses and organizations provide
support for the Festival, with sponsorships, auction donations and
volunteers. To learn more about these opportunities, or for general
information on the festival, please call the Cultural Arts Division, at
(248) 473-1856.
