Property Taxes

NOTICE: All 2019 property taxes were due and payable at the City of Farmington Hills by March 2, 2020. On March 3, the City’s 2019 tax records were turned over to the Oakland County Treasurer’s Office to collect. If you still owe 2019 property taxes, you must call the City of Farmington Hills Treasury Division at 248-871-2480 and request that a Revised Statement be mailed to you. You will need to mail this Revised Statement with your payment to receive proper credit at Oakland County.

Delinquent taxes from previous years have been turned over to the Oakland County Treasurer's office and are payable to Oakland County Treasurer, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Dept. 479, Pontiac, Michigan 48341-0479. By law, failure to receive a tax bill does not waive tax or penalty. Tax bills are not forwarded by the Post Office unless it is a temporary forwarding order only. The Treasurer's Office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to accept payments, except for December 24th, 25th & 31st, January 1st & 20th; and February 17th.
                                                           
Drop boxes are located by the Police Station, next to the mail boxes and near the front entrance to City Hall.
 
Checks are accepted as conditional payment. If checks are not honored by the bank, taxes are unpaid and subject to any and all penalties.

 

Summer Property Taxes

Summer property taxes are mailed on or about July 1 of each year. Payment may be made without penalty and interest from July 1 through August 31. After August 31 a four per cent (4%) penalty and a one-half per cent (1/2%) interest charge is added per month. Delinquent summer property taxes may be paid at the Treasury office until February 28. When the due date falls on a Saturday, a Sunday, or a holiday recognized by the City, we consider your return to be filed on time if we receive it on the City's next regular business day.

Deferment of summer property taxes until February 14 is available for eligible senior citizens and handicapped persons. Application forms are available at the link below or at the City's Treasury Division at City Hall and must be filed by September 14 of the tax year.

Winter Property Taxes

Winter property taxes are mailed on or about December 1 of each year. Payment may be made without penalty and interest from December 1 through February 14. After February 14 four per cent (4%) is added. Delinquent winter property taxes may be paid at the Treasury office until February 28. When the due date falls on a Saturday, a Sunday, or a holiday recognized by the City, we consider your return to be filed on time if we receive it on the City's next regular business day.

From March 1 through March 31 delinquent property taxes should be remitted to Oakland County Treasurer, 1200 N. Telegraph, Pontiac MI 48341 after obtaining a revised statement from the City of Farmington Hills Treasury Division. After March 31, payments may be sent to Oakland County without a revised statement.

Payments of current property taxes may also be made at the drop box slot located near the Orchard Lake Road entrance to City Hall or in the beige box in front of the Police Department.
