The ceremony in downtown Farmington will also honor the memory of the citizen and first responders who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001
The Groves-Walker American Legion Post 346 will recognize the work of two City of Farmington Hills first responders at their annual Patriot Day Ceremony. The honorees have been nominated by their peers and selected based on their duty and service to the community.

Farmington Hills Fire Fighter Lieutenant Nick Hippler will be recognized as the American Legion Fire Fighter of the Year. Lieutenant Hippler has served the City of Farmington Hills for 20 years and during that time has earned five lifesaving awards, three certificates of appreciation and nine letters of appreciation.

“Lieutenant Hippler is an exemplary member of our fire department,” said Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh. “Not only is our department better because of him, but our community is a safer to live and raise a family thanks to his dedicated service to the City.”

Farmington Hills Police Officer Jeremy Beisel will be recognized as the American Legion Police Officer of the Year. As member of the Farmington Hills Police Department since 2008, Officer Beisel has had success in investigations, including the conviction of a local police officer who was distributing illicit drugs, and has saved lives on patrol, including bringing a peaceful end to a situation that involved an armed barricaded individual who threatened self-harm.

“It’s people like Officer Beisel who make this department and this City so special,” said Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King. “Officer Beisel is a family man, and his values are evident in the consistently remarkable work he does in this community.”

The ceremony, held to commemorate the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks, will take place in Riley Park in downtown Farmington on Monday, Sept. 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The community is invited to attend to show their respect for those who lost their lives in 2001 and to show support for local first responders who serve the community every day.
