New Activities Center

Activities Center 1

New Activities Center Project

Thank you for your interest in the future Activities Center that will eventually replace the existing Costick Center.

The City has completed an extensive community engagement process through in-person sessions, digital surveys, and a dedicated email address. The feedback gathered during this process will help inform future discussions and decision-making as the project moves forward.

The project remains in the planning phase, and no final decisions regarding facility design, layout, amenities, or specific features have been made at this time.

This webpage is intended to keep the community informed throughout the planning process. Here, you will find updates, key milestones, and information as the City continues to evaluate community needs and explore options for the future facility. This project reflects the City's commitment to providing high-quality, accessible spaces that support the well-being of current and future Farmington Hills residents.

We look forward to sharing updates as planning continues.

What we Heard

The City is grateful to the many residents who participated in the engagement process for the new Activities Center. Through in person sessions, digital surveys, and a dedicated email address, community members shared thoughtful feedback about how they use the current Costick Center and what amenities would best support seniors today and in the future.

Across all engagement methods, we consistently heard the importance of:

  • Flexible, multipurpose rooms for a variety of programs
  • Comfortable gathering spaces for social connection
  • Reliable space for fitness, wellness, and movement-based activities
  • Areas that support meal programs and essential services
  • Clear navigation and accessible design throughout the facility

This feedback is now guiding the planning and design of the new Activities Center, ensuring that resident priorities remain at the heart of the project.

Project Goals

Accessibility - Create a modern, welcoming facility where residents of all ages—and especially adults 50 and better—can easily access programs, services, and community spaces.

Community Benefit - Support health, wellness, social connection, and lifelong learning with amenities like a gym, pool, dining space, and flexible rooms designed to meet the community’s evolving needs. Community feedback has consistently emphasized the importance of maintaining a dedicated activities facility with strong social opportunities and a wide variety of programs. Replace the aging Costick Center, which is nearing the end of its operational viability, with a facility that is safe, assessable and aligned with the City’s long term strategic planning.
