Survey responses will help shape the future of the Fire Department

The Farmington Hills Fire Department is seeking feedback from community members and business owners as part of a new strategic planning effort that will help shape the future of fire and emergency medical services in the City. Community members are invited to complete a survey between Tuesday, Sept. 2 and Tuesday, Sept. 16.

“It’s important that we hear from the community while laying out this strategic plan to ensure we are meeting the needs of people who live, work and spend time in Farmington Hills,” said City of Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh. “The community is at the heart of everything the Farmington Hills Fire Department does. We want to hear what the community sees as our strengths and how they believe we can serve them even better.”

This is the first time in approximately 30 years that the Fire Department is seeking this type of feedback from the community, which is a critical part of the strategic planning process. Community members will be able to share input on their expectations, concerns, and priorities related to fire and emergency medical services in Farmington Hills. Responses will help shape the Fire Department’s priorities and guide long-term planning as the Department works to enhance its response to daily needs and large-scale man-made or natural disasters. The survey is part of Department’s comprehensive five-year strategic plan that is currently being developed, which will evaluate current operations, staffing, equipment, facilities and service delivery capabilities.

The survey is available online via Survey Monkey through Tuesday, Sept. 16. Hard copies of the survey may also be picked up and returned no later than 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Hard copies are available at:

  •           Farmington Hills Fire Headquarters, temporarily located on the third floor of The Hawk at 29995 W. 12 Mile Road,
  •          The City Manager’s Office on the second floor of Farmington Hills City Hall, located at 31555 W. 11 Mile Road, and
  •         The Costick Activities Center, located at 28600 W. 11 Mile Road.

The Farmington Hills Fire Department responds to thousands of fire and emergency medical calls each year, providing fire services and advanced life support emergency medical services. The Department also works to educate the community about fire prevention and fire safety and enforces the Fire Code. The Department operates out of five stations strategically located across the City that are staffed 24/7. At the core of the Fire Department’s work is the commitment to protecting lives and property while preparing for the future.

The Department is working with the Center for Public Safety Management, LLC (CPSM), a nationally recognized consulting firm specializing in public safety planning and analysis, to create the strategic plan. CPSM has completed more than 500 studies in 46 states and provinces, bringing a fact-based, data-driven approach aligned with national standards and best practices.
