Gather, Gift & Give Back: Experience the Holiday Season in Farmington Hills
The City of Farmington Hills is welcoming the holiday season with something for everyone. Whether your holiday list includes gathering with family, giving back to neighbors in need, or giving gifts to loved ones, the City of Farmington Hills has it handled.
GATHER
Spend time with family, friends and Santa in Farmington Hills, while enjoying the sights and sounds of the season.
Sights
Keep the family fun going the day after Thanksgiving while seeing the sights of Heritage Park during HIKE and SEEK. Staff from the Farmington Hills Nature Center will take families through the trails to seek out nature’s treasures and discover the reasons to be thankful for them. There are two kid-friendly hikes at 1 and 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28.
Join the Mayor and Mr. Claus for carols, cocoa and community on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the City's 33rd annual holiday lights celebration. This event is free, so bring the family to City Hall at the corner of Eleven Mile and Orchard Lake Roads to join in the fun. Santa leaves the sleigh at the North Pole because he rides in style in Farmington Hills on a fire truck.
Sounds
Bring the whole family to The Hawk Theatre for special holiday programs throughout the month of December. The Farmington Hills Youth Theatre presents “Scrooge,” a musical adaptation of “A Christmas Carol,” Friday, Dec. 5 through Sunday, Dec. 7 with evening and matinee performances. Then, “Once Upon a December Eve,” a beloved metro Detroit holiday tradition returns to The Hawk Theatre Mainstage at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14! Tickets are available at TheHawkTheatre.com.
Santa
Once Santa arrives in Farmington Hills, he will be sticking around for a few special stops. First he’ll head to the historical Longacre House for Cookies with Santa on the evenings of Monday, Dec. 8 and Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Santa will also be visiting the iconic red barn in Heritage Park on Wednesday, Dec. 10 and Thursday, Dec. 11 from 5-7:30 p.m. for Oh Deer, Santa’s Here! Families can spend time with Santa and take pictures before cozying up around a campfire for cocoa and activities that celebrate Rudolph’s deer cousins who live in Heritage Park.

GIVE BACK
Some neighbors need a little extra help around the holidays. If you’re looking to give back to the community this holiday season, the City of Farmington Hills can help you help folks of all ages.
Give Back to Older Adults
There are two big ways to support older adults in need this holiday season in Farmington Hills.
The Hawk Makerspace is hosting “Crafted in Kindness,” a handmade hat and mitten drive, to make a difference this winter. Knitters, crocheters, weavers, sewists, and other crafters can donate their cozy garments from Saturday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Dec. 20, which will then be distributed to older adults in need through the City’s Adults 50 & Better Division. For every pair of donated hats and mittens, the crafter will be entered for a chance to win prizes from The Hawk Makerspace. Don’t know how to sew? The Hawk Makerspace is hosting workshops to teach aspiring makers to sew fleece hats and mittens on Saturday, Nov. 29.
Did you know one of Santa’s helpers works at the Costick Activities Center in Farmington Hills? Senior adult supervisor Teresa Jergovich spearheads the Senior Secret Santa program, which provides gifts to nearly 600 older adults each December. Fulfill a holiday wish list to lift the spirits of an older adult who may feel alone or isolated this holiday season. Contact Teresa at 248-473-1826 or tjergovich@fhgov.com for more information. Wrapped gifts must be dropped off at the Costick Activities Center at 28600 W. Eleven Mile Road in Farmington Hills by Friday, Dec. 5.
Give Back to Kids
The Farmington Hills Fire and Police Departments make a difference in the community every day, and it’s their mission each December to make sure no kid goes without a gift. Farmington Hills police and firefighter/paramedics are teaming up with Toys for Tots, and you can help them grant wishes. Now through Thursday, Dec. 16, you can donate unwrapped toys in the lobby of the Farmington Hills Fire and Police Departments on the campus of City Hall at the corner of Eleven Mile and Orchard Lake Roads.
