2024 Project Information

 

CITY OF FARMINGTON HILLS MAJOR ROAD PROJECTS

 
11 Mile Road Rehabilitation Project (Farmington Road to Orchard Lake Road)
  • Eleven Mile Road between Farmington Road and Orchard Lake Road is currently closed to through traffic for the duration of the project.
  • Currently, local access for residents is being maintained from Power Road.
  • Eleven Mile Road will be closed to all traffic at Farmington Road.
  • Eleven Mile Road is closed to westbound traffic at Orchard Lake Road.  Eastbound local traffic can exit the construction zone at Orchard Lake Road.    
Visitors to City Hall will be directed to enter the campus from the driveway off Orchard Lake Road
for access to all of campus including the safe transaction zone, mail, City drop boxes, etc.

 

GREAT LAKES WATER AUTHORITY PROJECT (GLWA)


14 Mile Watermain Loop Project (Citywide, primarily along the Haggerty/I-275 corridor)
  • This ongoing GLWA Project continues to progress and includes the installation of the watermain, which is near completion.
  • Miscellaneous paving, restoration and plantings will follow and are expected to continue through June of 2024.  

 ROAD COMMISSION FOR OAKLAND COUNTY (RCOC)

 
Northbound M-5 ramp at Freedom Road to Grand River Avenue is expected to close May 1-2
  • The contractor working for RCOC will be milling and paving this section of road.
  • Freedom Road is expected to have long delays in the area, local traffic is advised to use Drake Road as an alternative.  
 

MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (MDOT)


I-696 (I-275 to Lahser Road)
  • This $275 million project includes rebuilding the roadway from the base up, storm sewer replacement work, overpass rehabilitation and rebuilding ramps at Orchard Lake Road, American Drive, Franklin Road, M-10 (Northwestern Highway), and US-24 (Telegraph Road).
  • Work included in the 2024 calendar year includes the entire westbound I-696 from I-275 to Evergreen Road. This substantial work is expected to be completed by late November.
  • Starting 4/30/2024 Farmington Road over I-696 may be reduced to one lane utilizing flagging operations while bridge deck work is underway.  Farmington Road will only be reduced to one lane when forces are actively working.
