Sounds of Summer: City of Farmington Hills Announces Free Summer Concert Series Beginning June 12
The City of Farmington Hills invites community members to sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of summer at its Free Summer Concert Series beginning Thursday, June 12 and continuing through August. The City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department Cultural Arts Division is hosting the all-ages concert series, which will feature live shows and local performers throughout the summer.
“In Farmington Hills, the arts are an essential service and inviting community members to free concerts is our way of celebrating the arts all summer long,” said Rachel Timlin, cultural arts supervisor for the City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department. “Last year, summer storms meant that a few outdoor concerts had to be cancelled, but nothing can rain on our parade! That’s why we’re changing it up this year and bringing a couple shows inside to The Hawk Theatre.”
The Free Summer Concert Series kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on June 12 with the Jai Ho Indian Music and Dance Celebration at The Hawk Theatre Mainstage during the City’s annual Kickoff 2 Summer event.
The Free Summer Concert Series continues through August:
- June 19 at 7 p.m. – Juneteenth Concert featuring Da’Ja at The Hawk Theatre Mainstage. Tickets are free and must be reserved in advance at TheHawkTheatre.com.
- July 10 at 7 p.m. - Farmington Concert Band at the Heritage Park Amphitheater.
- July 17 at 7 p.m. - Blue Lake International presents Symbolica Flag Dancers (Vlaggendansgroep Symbolica) from Genk, Belgium at the Heritage Park Amphitheater.
- July 24 at 7 p.m. – Farmington Concert Band Big Band at the Heritage Park Amphitheater.
- August 14 at 7 p.m. – The Farmington Chorus at the Heritage Park Amphitheater.
Performances will take place at two popular City venues: The Hawk Theatre Mainstage, located inside The Hawk, the City’s recreation and arts venue at 29995 W. 12 Mile Road, and the Heritage Park Amphitheater, located in Heritage Park at 24915 Farmington Road.
The City of Farmington Hills has the largest dedicated municipal Cultural Arts Division in the State of Michigan. The Division coordinates arts programming for the community, including classes, events, and activities in visual and performing arts, and year-round performances at The Hawk Theatre, to expose diverse populations to the arts. The City’s Cultural Arts Division also works to empower makers of all ages and abilities in The Hawk Makerspace, an immersive facility that allows makers to access a variety of state-of-the art tools and equipment, as well as a creative community with a wealth of resources and knowledge, to grow a new hobby or skill, from sewing to woodworking and more.
