Farmington Hills Police Department to Offer Citizens Police Academy for Community Members Starting Jan. 14
Registration is open for the Farmington Hills Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy, which starts Wednesday, Jan. 14. This immersive program meets once a week for 10 weeks and offers community members a unique opportunity to gain insight into law enforcement practices, procedures, and the daily operations of the Farmington Hills Police Department.
"The Citizens Police Academy is an excellent opportunity for community members to gain a firsthand look into the work that the Farmington Hills Police Department does to keep the community safe," said Farmington Hills Police Chief John Piggott. "This program strengthens the partnership between the Department and the community by fostering understanding, trust and collaboration. We encourage anyone interested in learning more about law enforcement to join us."
Participants in the Citizens Police Academy will gain knowledge about law enforcement practices, including dispatch, investigations and more. Throughout the program, participants will also deepen their appreciation of the dedication and professionalism that the men and women who serve the Farmington Hills community put into their work daily.
All classes will be held Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. from Jan. 14 through March 18. Most sessions will be held in the Farmington Hills Police Department training room, located at 31655 W. Eleven Mile Road, west of Orchard Lake Road. Some sessions will take place at other locations important to policing, including the 47th District Court and the Oakland County Medical Examiner Office.
The program is free, but space in the Citizen Police Academy is limited. For more information, or to sign up, email cpa@fhgov.com or call 248-871-2750.
