City of Farmington Hills Invites Farmington Public Schools Students to Enter America 250 Poster Art Contest

Posted:  03/26/2026

The City of Farmington Hills, in collaboration with Farmington Public Schools, is inviting students in grades K–12 to participate in a poster contest to help the City celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Entries to the student art contest are open through April 26 through the online Jotform application: https://form.jotform.com/260745132663153

With the theme “We Are America,” the contest encourages students to explore and express what America means to them through original artwork. Students are invited to reflect on ideas such as community, freedom, diversity, history and hopes for the future.

“This contest is a meaningful way to engage some of the City’s youngest community members in celebrating America’s 250th while encouraging creativity and community pride,” said Acting City Manager Karen Mondora. “We’re looking forward to seeing how students express their experiences to reflect what America means in Farmington Hills.”

The contest is open to Farmington Public Schools students in kindergarten through 12th grade. To be considered, students must create an original artwork to submit before April 26. Any medium may be used to make the art piece, including markers, paint, pencil, collage, digital design programs and more. AI-generated artwork is not permitted.

Entries will be judged based on creativity and originality, interpretation of the theme, as well as overall visual impact and clarity of message. Winning entries will be reviewed by City officials, including members of the Cultural Arts Division.

Selected winning posters will be professionally reproduced at The Hawk Makerspace and displayed throughout the community, including at The Hawk, Farmington Hills City Hall and during the City’s America 250th Celebration at Founders Sports Park on June 25, 2026. Winning designs may also be featured in promotional materials for the celebration.

“Farmington Public Schools is proud to partner with the City of Farmington Hills for this student-focused art contest to celebrate America’s 250th,” said Dr. Kelly Coffin, superintendent of Farmington Public Schools. “This contest gives our students a chance to connect the history they learn in the classroom with their lived experience to share their vision for the future of our community.”

Students may submit one entry each. Artwork must be no smaller than 8.5” x 11” and no larger than standard poster board size. Entries must be submitted digitally by uploading a photo or scan of the design, along with filling out an online application. Mail-in or in-person submissions will not be accepted. All entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on April 26, 2026.

Students should retain their original artwork, as winning designs will be professionally photographed for reproduction. By submitting artwork, participants and their parent or guardian grant permission for the City to reproduce the design for promotional use related to the America 250 celebration.
