City of Farmington Hills Makes Building Permit and Inspection Requests Easier with New Online Portal
The City of Farmington Hills is modernizing its permitting and inspection process to improve efficiency, accessibility, and customer service for community members, contractors, and other professionals.
Beginning early March 2026, all building permit applications and inspection requests will transition to online submissions through the City’s BS&A online portal. This modernized process will replace paper applications, over-the-counter submissions and inspections previously requested by phone. This transition applies to everyone seeking a building permit or inspection, including professional contractors and homeowners.
“Moving to an online system allows the City to improve level of service, processing times and provide a more convenient interaction for customers,” said Charmaine Kettler-Schmult, the City’s director of planning and community development. “It also helps modernize internal systems and processes, ensuring transparency in tracking applications and inspections.”
While many applicants already use the online portal, the updated process creates a consistent, centralized system for all users. The BS&A portal allows applicants to submit permit materials, upload required documents and schedule inspections at any time, eliminating the need for in-person visits or phone calls.
