City of Farmington Hills Resumes Yard Waste Collection Starting the Week of April 6, 2026
The City of Farmington Hills is pleased to announce the return of yard waste collection services, starting the week of April 6-10, 2026. This marks the beginning of the eagerly anticipated spring clean-up season, during which yard waste collection will resume to provide residents with convenient curbside pick-up to support yard maintenance throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons. Curbside yard waste collection will continue on regularly scheduled garbage and recycling collection days through the week of Dec. 14-18, 2026.
Yard Waste Collection Procedures
City residents are encouraged to participate in the City's yard waste collection program. To ensure efficient service, residents can place their yard waste at the curbside using brown paper yard waste bags or 35-gallon trash cans with yard waste stickers on both sides. These stickers are available free of charge at City Hall or the Division of Public Works. Additionally, residents have the option to recycle leaves and grass clippings into their lawns using a mulching mower, contributing to a healthier landscape.
Yard Waste Requirements
The City encourages residents to adhere to yard waste guidelines. Acceptable yard waste includes leaves, grass, shrub clippings, twigs and plant materials. Brush and small limbs with a diameter of six inches or less must be bundled, each bundle being less than four feet long and weighing less than 60 pounds. It's important that brush or twigs do not extend above the container's rim to ensure safe and efficient collection. Unbundled brush, large limbs, and significant amounts of dirt or sod will not be collected.
Compost for Gardens
As part of its commitment to sustainability, the City is pleased to offer residents free self-serve compost from May through September. This nutrient-rich soil will be available at the William Grace Dog Park, located at 29040 Shiawassee Road. Those taking advantage of this service will need to bring their own shovels and containers for collection.
