City of Farmington Hills Seeks Community Input Through Survey to Shape Future Housing and Community Investments
Responses will guide the City’s plan for using federal funds from the Community Development Block Grant program
The City of Farmington Hills is inviting community members, community leaders, and organizations to help shape future housing and community development priorities by taking a brief survey that will help shape the City’s upcoming 2026–2030 Consolidated Plan. Survey responses will help guide how the City prioritizes funding received through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. These federal funds support projects that strengthen neighborhoods, expand housing opportunities and provide services that improve quality of life in Farmington Hills.
The survey is available online: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JK66WRC. It will remain open until March 29. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete and is anonymous.
Community feedback plays an important role in determining how these funds are invested over the next five years. The survey asks for community perspective on housing needs, community services, neighborhood improvements and other priorities that impact daily life in Farmington Hills.
“Input is essential to ensuring these programs reflect the real needs of the community,” said Tracey Emmanuel, community development coordinator for the City of Farmington Hills Department of Planning & Community Development. “The Consolidated Plan helps guide investments that support housing stability, neighborhood improvements and services for community members facing challenges. Hearing directly from the community helps us make thoughtful decisions about where these resources can have the greatest impact.”
Historically, federal community development funds administered by the City have supported a wide range of programs and projects. Major uses of these funds have included the City’s Housing Rehabilitation Program, which helps preserve safe and affordable homes for homeowners with low- and moderate-incomes. Funding has also supported nonprofit partners that provide essential services such as health and mental health care, assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and programs designed to help individuals and families move out of the cycle of homelessness.
HUD requires the City to consult with residents, organizations and other interested parties to determine the City’s housing, non-housing and community development needs. This survey is one of several ways the City uses to help determine the community needs, strategies and priorities of how it will invest CDBG and other related funds.
In addition to the survey, the City will host a public meeting to gather feedback on Monday, March 23. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Farmington Hills City Hall, located at 31555 W. Eleven Mile Road on the southwest corner of Orchard Lake and Eleven Mile Roads.
Community members who need assistance completing the survey, as well as anyone who is unable to attend the meeting can contact Tracey Emmanuel at temmanuel@fhgov.com or 248-871-2545.
