City Council Adopts Resolution Opposing State Legislation Affecting Local Zoning Authority

At its regular meeting on Monday, April 13, 2026, the Farmington Hills City Council adopted a resolution expressing opposition to Michigan House Bills 5529–5532 and 5581–5585. According to the resolution, these bills would affect local municipal zoning authority, prompting the City Council to formally communicate its concerns to the State.

Following Council’s action, the City Clerk was directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Whitmer, State Senator Bayer, State Senator Cavanagh, State Representative Steckloff, State Representative Hoskins, State Representative Breen, the Michigan Association of Planning, the Michigan Municipal League, the Michigan Townships Association, the Michigan Association of Counties for review and consideration. The correspondence noted the City’s position regarding the proposed legislation and included an invitation for further discussion if needed.
