Farmington Hills Fire Department Invites Community to CPR Training on May 20

Posted:  05/11/2026

The Farmington Hills Fire Department and the City’s Emergency Preparedness Commission will offer an American Heart Association Heartsaver class on Wednesday, May 20, to train community members in CPR, AED use and Stop the Bleed tourniquet skills. The course is open to everyone, including those with little or no medical training.

“This class will give community members the skills they need to start lifesaving measures when a traumatic injury or illness happens,” said Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh. “Every second counts, especially in an instance of cardiac arrest and we want to make sure our community is as prepared as possible.”

According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of a hospital each year. Immediate bystander intervention can double, or even triple, a person’s chance of survival when CPR is started right away. Through this essential training, participants will learn how to recognize cardiac arrest and the critical steps to take while waiting for first responders to arrive.

The class, open to individuals ages 12 and up, will be held from 5:30-10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20 at Fire Station #4 located at 28711 Drake Road. Children under 18-years-old must register with a parent or guardian. Registration fees are $10 for Farmington Hills and Farmington residents, and $30 for non-residents. An additional $20 fee, regardless of residency, is required for the American Heart Association Certificate of Training, which is valid for two years and can be printed or accessed online. Participants are required to be physically capable of kneeling on the floor and delivering continuous chest compressions with their arms and hands.

To maintain an optimal student‑instructor ratio, registration fees are due Wednesday, May 13, one week prior to the class, and are non-refundable. To register or for more details, send an email to FDevents@FHgov.com.
