The City of Farmington Hills Selected to Participate in National Early Childhood Leadership Initiative
As communities across the country honor National Children’s Day, the City of Farmington Hills is proud to announce its selection by the National League of Cities for its Pathways for Early Childhood Leadership initiative. The City is one of nine in Michigan and Tennessee selected to participate in the initiative, which recognizes the daily efforts of local staff to advance child development and family wellbeing.
The initiative also reaches across multiple levels of municipal leadership, giving decision makers and frontline staff the tools needed to strengthen early childhood systems. City staff will also receive technical assistance, access to early childhood experts and peer networks and other tailored resources from cities nationwide.
“Our selection in this initiative will help strengthen our commitment to giving children in Farmington Hills the best possible start,” said Acting City Manager Karen Mondora. “As we work to expand programs, public spaces and opportunities for families, we are creating a City where children can grow, learn and thrive. This partnership helps us continue that work.”
From sports leagues, the Nature preschool and visual and performing arts to summer camps, Farmington Hills offers activities that spark creativity and build confidence. Continued investments in facilities, including The Hawk Community Center, the Nature Center and the Ice Arena, demonstrate the commitment to building and maintaining high-quality spaces for families.
“Local municipal staff plays a vital role in the collaborative ecosystem that supports young children and their families,” said Clarence E. Anthony, CEO and executive director of the National League of Cities. “Farmington Hills is joining other cities from across Michigan and Tennessee to embark on a unique and transformative experience for their youngest residents. The Pathways for Early Childhood Leadership cohort connects cities behind a single goal of making the future brighter for America’s young children and families.”
By joining eight other cities in the Michigan and Tennessee, the City will help advance a regional effort to strengthen children and families.
